Tim Southee equalled the World Cup record

Wellington, Feb 20: New Zealand paceman Tim Southee today equalled the World Cup record for best bowling, against England at Westpac Stadium.

This was after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and batted. They were bundled out for 123 in 33.2 overs. Four victims of Southee's seven were bowled - Ian Bell, Moeen Ali, James Taylor and Chris Woakes.

Southee is only the 4th bowler (3rd best) in World Cup history to bag a 7-wicket haul in an innings. The others being Winston Davis (West Indies), Glenn McGrath and Andy Bichel (both Australia).

Today's 7/33 from Southee is also the best ever ODI bowling figures by a New Zealander in One Day Internationals. He is the first Kiwi bowler to taken 7 wickets in a ODI innings.

In World Cups, McGrath still holds the record for the best bowling with 7/15 against Namibia in 2003 edition.

The 26-year-old Southee has so far taken 127 wickets in 88 matches.
